PWS OCD

So, my OCD got the better of me and I coudn't have an Armalite upper in my build, especially one that wasn't to standard spec and taller than a regular upper.  I found this out when I mounted the PWS hand guard to it and it didn't line up.

So my pal Hermes hooked me up with a PWS upper on a trade and even helped me install it.  Here's the old Armalite one, and into the spare parts bin it goes.

Shortly after, my A2 receiver extension arrived so I was finally able to install the PRS Stock.

Of course, I had to use an A2 buffer and buffer spring as well

Pretty much a complete PWS rifle except for the trigger group (using that awsome single stage Jard unit) and barrel (Colt HBAR).

I've gone from promising myself one AR and that would be all I needed (A norc at that) to two top tier ARs and three I slapped together.

American Defense Recon-S Quick-Release Scope Mount Picatinny-Style

I picked up an American Defense Recon-S mount for my 10TR because.....well, I didn't actually have a good reason to get it...I guess it was because it was on sale, haha!

I was using the rings that came with my Millett LRS which are extra high for clearing the 56mm objective on a flat-top (probably AR) rifle.  Actually, I was using the set that came with it plus an extra from another set, for a total of three rings.  Didn't really need three, but there was space and thought I'd seen it done somewhere else.

As you can see, it left a lot of clearance from the objective to the top of the hand guard.

So, the AD-RECON-S came packaged in the same style as my AD-RECON-SL that I'd gotten for my Cadex 700:

The only difference between the AD-RECON-S and the -SL model is the SL model is lower and does not have that extra slab between the rings and base.

As you can see it mounted on my 700, it barely clears a 50mm objective.  Since the S model was on sale, I figured it'd be worth the gamble, so I bought it to see if the extra height would be too much.

The height over bore is quite a bit, but not as bad as the Millett Tactical 6-hole high rings that came with the scope.  I'll find some time one of these days and take some better pictures.

Savage Mark II TRR SR gets some rattle can action

I got bored one day and decided to do something stupid.  The day before me and my pals were supposed to head out to Squamish to do a little shooting, I decide to throw some Krylon onto my brand new Savage Mark II TRR SR.  I haven't even shot it yet, and I was planning to the next day, but stupidity overcame me and I got the paint out.  Then I read the instructions, dry to the touch in 15 minutes, but takes 7 days to cure and harden.  The instructions were correct, it was dry, but slightly tacky and I wasn't able to take it out to shoot.  A week later, it felt totally dry as if it came from the factory like that.

It turned out pretty nice actually, and almost like a factory job, so much so, that I put the Savage sticker back on the stock for this photo shoot, haha!

New addition is the Tactical Solutions compensator.  It really doesn't make a huge difference with a .22lr rifle, especially one with a 22 inch barrel
