I Love Guns & Coffee

New stuff from CTC Supplies

Well, Justin the Arms Dealer just came by my office with some new toys.  I got the Magpul MBUS front and rear in OD Green.  So anal, I know, but the fake stuff I had on before just wasn't as sturdy.  The retaining pins would back out everytime I popped the sights up and down.  I also got a VLTOR/BCM  Gunfighter charging handle.  I'll post some pics once I install this stuff.

Family Portrait

On CGN, they was a thread about lockers and storage so I took a shot of mine.  The lighting at my place is crap so the best I could do was either use a flash, or hold a flashlight over my locker and take a shot.  It's not an epic picture or anything, but this one below turned out kind of interesting.

Also, I pulled some of my toys out of the toy box for a photo.  I have to get them out under the sun for a decent photo one of these days.

My Remington R1 Enhanced.  I went to Reliable Gun to buy a Norinco 1911A1 (haha, to go with the rest of my Norc stuff) but my buddy Hermes talked me into the R1.  I'm new to pistols and don't know very much about them or how to use them, but what I can say is I absolutely love this one.  The I've shot my buddy Jay's Glock 17 before, and thought it was a 9mm, it felt like it kicked harder than this .45.  Compared to the Norinco 1911A1, the R1 feels more refined, it feels smoother when I rack the slide, and the finish is pristine.  The only problem I have with it is that I feel the need to baby it.  Haha, I may still go back one day to buy the Norc 1911 anyway just to have a beater gun, one I'm not going to cry over if I drop it or scratch it up.

My Norc M14 with a DX stock bag.  It's padded but needs to be built up for a comfortable cheek weld. I know it's kind of ghetto, but I rolled up a couple of tube socks and jammed them underneath the padding and it seems to work for now.  I'll keep shopping for something better.

My new Remington 870 Express with the mag extension.  I also got this from Reliable Gun for a smoking deal.  I added the tacticool flashlight and side saddle because I've been watching too many Magpul videos, but whatever, it doesn't affect the the performance so who cares.  Well, the flashlight mount is a bit floppy like a flaccid udon noodle, so I'll shop around for something a bit more sturdy, but I'm pretty happy with the new shotty.  I'm pretty new to shotguns and it seems like a whole new world of shooting.  There are so many types of ammo, it boggles my mind.  So far, I've only tried bird shot/target load and some slugs.  Talk about completely decimating a target sheet.

I had some face tatoos left over from Canada Day so I stuck on on my AR, haha, let's see how long it lasts before it rubs off.

I threw in my neighbor's Maverick 88 as well as some of my Airsoft stuff to beef up the collection.  The Airsoft stuff is for sale if anyone who's reading this is interested, haha!

I think I'm running out of storage space and I'm going to need another locker soon, haha!

New Double-Stack Flashlight Mount

I finally got two flashlights that will fit the rings of my double-stack flashlight mount.  They're DX jobbies, but they'll do the job.  I've had some of their flashlights for years now with no complaints.  Only a few of them have crapped out on me, but that was because I was running batteries not recommended by the manufacturer.

Anyway, the double-stack is light, compact and easy to use.  The quick-release latch seems sturdy and clamps on tight.

Pacificsm

I was lurking on army.ca forums and stumbled across this quote:

"Pacificsm is doctrine fostered by a delusional minority and by the media, which holds forth the proposition it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Here's the original version, but it was referring to Polictal Correctness:

• A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

o Chet Beates, definition of Political Correctness used in Son of a Gun : The Life and Times of a Lifer Brat (2007), p. 209. Attributed to a student at Texas A&M University pre 2006 (http://www.grouchyoldcripple.com/archives/003882.html)

Either way, it's kind of funny, haha!

Pelican 1750

I discovered Cabela's recently on a trip down to Washington for a car show.  Holy $hit.  They have everything under the sun for guns, and even though sometimes the prices aren't that good compared to some local places, just being there makes you want to buy something.

So anyway, I was down in Washington for a car show, and discovered Cabela's.  I didn't buy anything but did return the following week to buy this single-rifle case that was for all intents and purposes built like a Pelican Case.  I got it back to Canada and discovered that neither my AR nor my scoped M14 fit properly inside of it (had to be tilted) so being as anal as I am, I sold the case and went back down to Cabela's to buy something that fit a lot better, this Peilican 1750 double rifle case.

The previous week, I was down there and bought a 1170 single pistol case for my R1. I guess I wanted something really sturdy to protect my range queen so I shelled out $50 for the Peilican 1170 in tan (it was the only color at the time). There was a Plano for $30 that could hold more pistols and mags, but I told myself that my Remington R1 will be the first and last pistol I will ever buy......haha, famous last words!

So anyways, when I went down to get the long Pelican case, I got the tan one to match my pistol case. My version of matched luggage, only these come with life-time warantee and they never go out of style.

I'll take some better pictures when I get a chance.  Next time, I won't have the 870 in the way and obstructing the view, haha!

Watchmen Smiley Face Aluma 1911 Grips

Yes, I riced out my R1.  I'm probably gonna get some flak for desecrating my 1911, what's the terminology?  It's not "safe queen", there's some other term floating around on the fourms nowadays.  I think it's "mall ninja" or "walmarche"?  Anyway, I like them.

I picked these up from DL Sports and though they're not exactly the ones pictured on their website, I'm still happy with them.  When I ordered these, I wasn't trying to make a replica of the gun used by the Joker from the movie The Watchmen.  In fact, I had no idea the smiley faces were even on his grips, I was just browsing 1911 grips one day and stumbled on these.  Anyway, I contacted Dave from DL Sports and he got back to me pretty quick.  I sent him the money and got the grips within a few days. Service was great, and I'm pretty happy with the grips got.

Some people are gonna wonder why I decided to put smiley faces on my pistol.  I just figured it was kind of jack-ass to have smiley faces on a pistol......maybe I was referring to that Jungian thing, who knows.

With the new grips, the pistol feels even more slick than before.  I used to like the idea of the double-stack, hi-cap mags, but in Canada, we're limited to 10 anyway, so the way I figured, I should just work on faster mag changes.

Here are some specs on the pistol:

  • Adjustable Rear Sight
  • Fiber-Optic Front Sight (Red)
  • Front/Rear Slide Serrations
  • Beavertail Grip Safety with Checkered Memory Bump
  • Enhanced Hammer Anodized Aluminum Match Trigger
  • Enhanced Wide Thumb Safety
  • Flat Checkered Mainspring Housing (20 LPI)
  • Match Grade Stainless Barrel and Bushing
  • Front Grip Strap Serrations
  • Custom Grips with Thumb Groove and Ambi Cut
  • 8-Round Magazines with Bumper Pad (2)

Driving an old Willys

I was out and about on the island for some training and got a chance to drive this museum piece around the parking lot.  The curators of the museum said they probably put about 30k into restoring it, and from the looks and feel, it was pretty evident they also poured a lot of blood and sweat into it as well.

New Bipod on the M14

Another trip down to the states ended up with more man-crap, haha!  This time I bought a Winchester-branded bipod for $40.  I'm not a precision shot by any means, but I was told a bipod might help a bit.  Every little bit helps I suppose

The CASM from M14.CA is still holding up.

I was watching Magpul Precision Rifle the other day and never felt more stupid in my life.  I got about 20 minutes into it and was completely lost.  They were speaking a whole other language and I felt like I knew absoultely nothing about shooting and firearms in general (which is true) so I went back to watch the out takes just to make myself feel better, haha!
